MDR (Vigilance) costs extra, and its small-business motion is less self-serve than CrowdStrike’s.
Microsoft Defender for Endpoint / Business
Best value for Microsoft shopsIf you already pay for Microsoft 365 Business Premium or E5, Defender is bundled and the price argument is over: $3/user/mo standalone, $5.20 for Endpoint Plan 2. Sophos Intercept X
Best for MSP-managed SMBsThe highest Gartner Peer Insights rating in our capture (4.8 across 2,536 ratings), one of the largest MDR services in the market, and channel pricing that often undercuts the big names, especially bundled with Sophos firewalls. No published list prices (quotes via resellers), and it is owned by private-equity firm Thoma Bravo rather than publicly traded. The 30-day trial is the longest here.
Palo Alto Cortex XDR
Best for Palo Alto network shopsEnterprise-grade endpoint detection that correlates natively with Palo Alto firewalls; inside a platform consolidation deal its effective price can be hard to beat, and Unit 42 gives it a top-tier services arm. No public pricing, no self-serve path, and no real SMB tier: if you are not already a Palo Alto shop, it is rarely the shortlist winner.
